Are we in the right, to be fearful?

With everything going on in the world today I thought it might be a good time to talk about the fears we have as mothers... Not the most fun topic and not the most flashy, but lets be honest; having a little comes with a LOT of fears. Not only fears for my child, but fears that I as a mom will mess up or do something wrong.

Are we in the right to be fearful of this new disease? This COVID-19 AKA Coronavirus? There really is not much research out there, but from what I do gather it does not affect children as much as it does the elderly.... But how do we know for certain? How do we know for sure that our new babies don't have some kind of factor that puts them more at risk? I feel like there is a ton of conspiracy going around on whether this disease was made and given to start knocking people out, or if it was truly just something that happened. I feel like we DO have a right to be fearful of this sickness. What I will say is that we can go above and beyond to do what we can to protect our babies.
Before this whole pandemic, there were two very very very... very very common things that scared me more then anything with having Hayden. One being his belly button chord calling off. Haydens fell off very early and oozed for probably a month before it fully healed. Eric and I are both new parents and we had NO idea if it was normal or not!How would we know? We only had what google told us, and most google articles told us that it came off super early and that it "could" cause problems. They were rare problems, but could my baby be one of those rare cases? Turns out no, he isn't and he is fine, but it was a real fear!

So when we got Hayden circumcised, we should have figured that he would follow trend and things would heal faster than they should. I am not going to get into a debate on whether having your child circumcised or not is better or not, because honestly, that is up to each and every parent to research and choose what they believe is best for their own child. With Hayden, we made the choice to do it, and his doctor did a different procedure then we were originally prepared for. His Doctor did the Plastibell device. Which has almost no after care, but the plastic piece will fall off once it is healed. Well, here again Hayden's started falling off much faster than we originally anticipated. THANKFULLY we had his two week check up coming up quickly and our doctor reassured us that everything was fine, but again, this was a very real fear that my child might be one of the few that have problems with getting circumcised.

Now that you have heard my two fears that I had prior to COVID-19, I think its safe to go back to this topic. How can I protect myself and my child from getting this? Same with the Flu, how can i protect myself and my child? My child is easy! BREAST MILK. I know that it is not possible for everyone to breast feed and I am in no way saying anything bad about anyone who doesn't (fed is best!) But, the way that your breast milk changes constantly to exactly what your baby needs in order to stay healthy is absolutely amazing! The minute your baby starts to get anything, our breast milk changes and becomes antibodies for my baby in order to fight whatever it is that he got, before he even gets it! How incredible is that. Breast feeding, and breast milk are truly magical.
Protecting myself is not quite as easy, but knowing what I put into my body and making sure to stay clean are very important factors.
I promise to make my next post much lighter and more fun! But for now, stay safe out there folks.
